VOCALIST OF THE YEAR SHOWS WHY
October 29 2009
With no offense intended towards the good people who hand out the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards and bestowed upon singer / songwriter Daniela Nardi the top prize as the 2009 Female Vocalist of the Year, but she has far too many facets to her music and she is far too creative to be associated with a genre whose artists often settle for turning out mundane, uninspired pabulum.

SMOOTH AND UNDERSTATED - Globe and Mail
June 11 2009
She won Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2009 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards in April. And the recognition threw the Toronto singer and songwriter into the spotlight. Music comes naturally to Daniela Nardi and so does driving.

MUSIC AS A WAY OF UNDERSTANDING LIFE
May 10 2009
This May 14, Lula Lounge will host singer/songwriter Daniela Nardi who is of Calabrese origin and who won this year's Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for having the best female voice. Her second album The Rose Tattoo (released last September) was profoundly influenced by Nardi's experience in being by her mother's side while battling cancer. Even the inspiration for the title, recounts Nardi, was the result of the rose mark that her mother had left on her heart: a concept taken from the film The Rose Tattoo which won an Oscar in 1956.

SONGS OF COMFORT - SMOOTH AND POWERFUL
April 29 2009
A masterful blend of pop, acoustic nu-jazz and electronica highlighted by Daniela Nardi's arresting voice - smooth and powerful, yet so soulful - reminiscent of Annie Lennox, Julia Fordham and Joni Mitchell. The Rose Tattoo is the Toronto-based singer/songwriter/multi instrumentalist's second album and perhaps surprisingly (it was written as her mother struggled with cancer) its messages are strong and positive. Moody, late night songs full of passion and depth that will wrap their arms around you and draw you close.

PUT ALL OF MANKIND IN A PEACEFUL KINDA MOOD
March 3 2009
This album starts out very rhythmic and sensual with a voice as smooth as eighty weight through a four speed. Jazz has never really run through my consciousness other than my time spent with Steely Dan’s “Can’t Buy A Thrill” spinning through my cassette deck strapped up under the dash in the old Skylark. So with that in mind, my limited intelligence on the subject, I still recommend this disc as it just has that flavour of “Cool”. Daniela can write and she owns the performances of her life’s experiences. There is definitely an eastern influence running through this disc, yet it contains a sound as western and sultry as a Mississippi evenin’ dipped in heavy molasses, with slightly husky vocals dripping sweet lyrics over the melody. “Fugitive Kind”, track six, would, I am almost certain, put all of mankind in a peaceful kinda groove if it could be listened to on a worldwide simultaneous broadcast. Very enjoyable mellow stylings.
